Winter is, traditionally, a lazy time of year. While this may be tempting, during the cold months, it can have quite a negative effect on an individual that can carry on for the rest of the year. The excuse, given by many, is that the bitter cold keeps them indoors, limiting possibilities for exercise. While this is, at least somewhat, true, there are still many exercises that can be done from the comfort of one’s home.

TreadmillSome of these may require specialized equipment such as a treadmill. Running is one of the best, and oldest, ways to stay fit. The cold temperatures outside may make it impractical, however, which is where an indoor treadmill comes in. With a treadmill, you can set your own pace. Whether you want to go for a brisk jog, or simply walk off those calories, you can set it to give you the work-out that you want. This type of flexibility has made them widely popular. The process of actually buying a treadmill is a pain in the ***; but there are actually some pretty good review sites out there that do independent reviews to help consumers. I used treadmill reviews.net for my own – and as I think these sites actually employ Physical Therapists to assist in the review process – I feel pretty good about their advice!

Another popular way for people to boost fitness, and develop stronger legs, is cycling. As good as this exercise is, it’s very hard to do in winter and takes iron determination to withstand the cold. Alternatively, you could use an indoor bike. Indoor bikes are an affordable way to ride whatever distance you want to, without ever leaving your living room. They usually come fully set up and can, sometimes, be preset to varying levels of difficulty (resistance). Also, your indoor bike will keep track of how many miles/kilometers you have pedalled, which can be used as a benchmark to record improved fitness. This also makes it easy to continue an outdoor cycling regimen, into, and throughout,Stairs the winter season for those already familiar with cycling as a form of exercise.

If buying a machine isn’t an option for you, there are other ways you can keep your fitness during these months. If you have stairs, in your home, walking up and down these everyday (multiple times, perhaps ten, as an individual workout) can work wonders for your fitness, and calf strength. Another, machine-less way to exercise is skipping. This only requires the purchase of a jump rope, and a little practice, to get you started. There is a slight, accident risk involved, however, so you should ensure that you clear the area, you intend to skip in, of fragile objects.

One other way to get a great workout is aerobics. You could buy a DVD, or just use a fitness program on the TV. Aerobics really get your heart pumping, and your metabolism accelerated – great for losing weight or toning muscle.

On a whole, however, the best way to keep a good work out regimen during the cold months is to combine the options suggested here. The treadmill, and indoor bike, are great ways to build your legs, and track your progress, from a distance perspective. This provides critical motivation that will help you to stick to it and do the other, additional, activities detailed here -most advisably the aerobics. Proper dedication, and perhaps a little financial investment, can keep you in great shape through the cold months and even give you a great body to show off when it warms up!

Now that we have talked a little bit about your attitude and how it can affect your life overall, let’s dive deeper into that topic.  Did you know that there are actually many people who can achieve many things but do not because of their attitude?

For example – a person that I used to work with had a terrible attitude, he never got promoted, looked at, considered but the person that worked along beside him that always had a happy-go-lucky attitude actually got promoted.  What does that tell you?

Well, there are many different ways that you can be positive and just telling yourself that you are doing a great job can make a huge difference.  So keep your chin up and relax!

self-confidence

When you think about it – what is the one thing that most people forget about when they are dealing with their busy lives?  Their health.  To be honest, we all have fast-paced and busy lives where the things around us actually move a heck of a lot faster than us and that can actually change our vision of life and there are events that can happen to make us lose our belief.

Most of the time, self motivation and self confidence are two things that are nonexistent in the world right now and really … what is the one thing that can truly keep you happy and healthy?  Saying it!  While some people do not believe that a negative attitude can really unlock a world of mess for you, it has been proven!

In the next blog, we are going to go through some things that can truly help you stay healthy by saying you are!
